This very mineral-rich Celtic fine sea salt from the French Guerande is a seasoning for many dishes. Also great to mix with herbs.
Cosmetics application as scrub salt.

Steeds vaker heeft men het over Keltisch zeezout. Maar wat is dat nu eigenlijk en waarin verschilt het van gewoon zeezout?

2000 jaar ambachtelijk

In Guérande liggen nog steeds de door de Kelten aangelegde zoutmoerassen. Zij lieten zeewater naar binnen stromen via een ingenieus kanalenstelsel, waarbij het zout van het ene naar het andere ondiepe bassin werd geleid. Het gehele proces duurde zo’n twee weken, waarna het zout in het laatste bassin door de zon gedroogd werd en handmatig opgeschept. Vandaag de dag wordt in Guérande nog op exact dezelfde manier zout gewonnen als de Kelten dit meer dan 2000 jaar geleden deden. Door absorptie van mineralen uit de klei van de bodems van de zoutmoerassen krijgt het zout zijn lichtgrijze kleur. De wisselwerking tussen klei en zeewater zorgt niet alleen voor zuivering, maar biedt ook ruimte aan verschillende mineralen en spoorelementen en zorgt voor daling van het gehalte aan natriumchloride tot onder de 90% (ca. 33% natrium en ca. 54% chloride). Bij gewoon zeezout is het natriumchloridegehalte 97 tot 99%. Hierdoor is de smaak en het mondgevoel van Keltische zeezout romig zacht en onvergelijkbaar met ander (zee)zout.
